About Screw Sort 3D

Screw Sort 3D gives the colour-sorting genre a mechanical, three-dimensional body. Instead of abstract stacks you are faced with an assembled structure (plates, panels and brackets bolted together with coloured screws) and you disassemble it by unscrewing bolts and dropping them into boxes of the matching colour.

The twist is that only a limited number of colour boxes are open at any moment. Unscrewing a colour with no available box wastes a slot, and enough mistakes will fail the level. So every tap is a small commitment: you need to check which boxes are currently accepting before you take a screw, and you need to notice which screws are actually reachable given what is layered on top of them.

That combination of colour management and spatial reading is what makes it more interesting than it first appears. It looks like a tapping game and plays like a planning one: a satisfying halfway house between the pure logic of a nuts-and-bolts sorter and the tactile pleasure of taking something apart.

How to play Screw Sort 3D

  1. Check which colour boxes are currently open and accepting screws.
  2. Find screws on the mechanism matching those open colours.
  3. Tap a screw to unbolt it: it flies into the box of its colour.
  4. Fill a box completely and it is replaced by a new one, potentially in a different colour.
  5. Avoid unscrewing colours with no open box; wasted screws cost you the level if they accumulate.
  6. Strip the whole mechanism to complete the stage.

Controls

  • Desktop: Click a screw to unbolt it.
  • Mobile: Tap a screw to unbolt it.

Tips and strategy

  • Read the boxes before the mechanism, every single time. The available colours dictate what you are allowed to do; the structure only tells you what is possible.
  • Finish filling a box whenever you can. Completing it cycles in a new colour, which is the only way to change what the board is asking for.
  • Watch for screws holding a panel that covers other screws. Removing them opens up a whole region, but only take them when the colour is actually being accepted.
  • Rotate your reading of the structure before acting. Screws on the far side are easy to miss and are often the ones you need.
  • When two colours are both open, spend the one with fewer visible screws first. The abundant colour will still be there; the scarce one may get buried.

Screw Sort 3D FAQ

How do I lose a level in Screw Sort 3D?

Unscrewing a screw when there is no open box of its colour puts it into limited temporary space. Accumulate too many mismatched screws with nowhere to go and the level fails.

Is Screw Sort 3D free?

Yes. It plays free in your browser on Vzzle with no download or registration.

What is the main skill this game tests?

Two things at once: colour management (tracking which boxes are accepting) and spatial reading, working out which screws are actually accessible in a layered three-dimensional structure.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The controls are a single tap and the game supports both landscape and portrait orientation, so it plays well on phones and tablets as well as desktop.
