About Mahjong Lines
Mahjong Lines belongs to the connect branch of the mahjong family rather than the stacked-solitaire branch. Every tile sits on a single flat level, fully visible from the start, and matching is governed by a path rule instead of by what is on top of what: two identical tiles can be removed if you can draw a line between them that uses at most three straight segments (in other words, no more than two turns) passing only through empty space.
That one rule changes the entire character of the game. Because nothing is hidden, there is no luck of the deal and no guessing about buried tiles. Every position is fully knowable, and difficulty comes from geometry: from the fact that the pair you want is separated by a wall of tiles that needs dismantling in the right order first.
It is a gentler, more legible game than stacked mahjong, and a good entry point if three-dimensional layouts have put you off the genre. The difficulty curve is gradual across a large bank of levels, and both a hint and a shuffle option are available when a board tightens up.
How to play Mahjong Lines
- Scan the board for two tiles showing the same symbol.
- Trace the route between them in your head: the connecting path may bend at most twice, giving three straight segments.
- The path can only travel through empty cells. It cannot pass through a tile that is still on the board. It may, however, route around the outside edge.
- Tap the first tile, then the second. If the path is legal, the pair disappears.
- Use a hint if you cannot find a valid pair, or shuffle to rearrange the remaining tiles.
- Remove every tile to complete the level.

- Desktop: Click one tile then its match to connect and clear the pair.
- Mobile: Tap one tile then its matching tile.
Tips and strategy
- Clear the outer edges first. Tiles on the perimeter can route around the outside of the board, which makes them the easiest matches available and opens corridors into the middle.
- Remember that paths may leave the grid entirely. Two tiles on opposite edges are often connectable even when the centre is completely packed.
- Attack the board symmetrically. Removing tiles from one side only tends to leave a dense, hard-to-untangle block on the other.
- Before you match a pair, check whether removing it opens a path for a second pair. Chaining two clearances is how you avoid dead ends.
- Treat shuffle as a real cost. It is better to spend a hint finding the one legal move than to reshuffle a board you were close to solving.
